Many are astounded by how quickly Interstate 680 has been rebuilt considering the destruction of a 3.1-mile section of the highway by the Missouri River flooding. Now, you can see it for yourself by viewing the Iowa Department of Transportation's (DOT) time-lapse video of images captured during reconstruction of this section of interstate. The video is available at http://www.iowadot.gov/floods/index.html).
In addition to the I-680 video, the Iowa DOT has available on its website an entire collection of photos taken this summer and fall of the flooding and subsequent rebuilding projects at I-680, I-29, Iowa 2, Iowa 175, Iowa 333 and U.S. 30. Those photos are available at: http://www.iowadot.gov/floods/2011floodgallery.html
Additional video collected during June-September showing the flood mitigation work and damaged roadways is available on the Iowa DOT's video gallery at: http://www.iowadot.gov/floods/video.html.
The Iowa DOT's fast-track flood recovery effort is continuing with the next milestone to be reached on Wednesday, Nov. 2 when I-680 is reopened to traffic around 2 p.m.
