The city of Cedar Rapids continues to seek volunteers for its Snow Buddies program to help residents in need of assistance clear snow. Nine of the 29 “Snow Buddies” clients still need to be paired with volunteers.

Eastern Iowans awoke to bitter wind chills Sunday morning after a winter storm dropped roughly about 5.5 to 7.5 inches overnight.
The coldest weather of this winter will arrive on New Year’s Day, with wind chills expected to reach 10 or more degrees below zero by morning and snowfall reaching up to 8 inches during the day.
The National Weather Service predicted Cedar Rapids would see 2 to 3 inches of snow Tuesday, while Iowa City would see 1 to 2 inches. Other past of Eastern Iowa could see up to 4 inches.
Tornadoes are extremely rare in Iowa in December. Minnesota, which had never had a tornado in December, also had tornado warnings and a possible sighting.
