An area of low pressure is moving in right on schedule, with a mix of rain and snow initially.
The precipitation will quickly become all snow later this morning through the afternoon. The snow could be heavy at times, with quarter sized flakes or larger. Total snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is likely across much of the area, with heaviest totals in the eastern counties, including Dubuque.
Winds will create a secondary hazard with reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Much of the snow will be over with by early evening, but travel will likely remain pretty slick.
The weekend looks chilly, with another light snow chance Saturday night into Sunday, then much warmer next week.
