More heavy rains raising flooding worries for some

Heavy rains Thursday morning flooded some streets in Independence and raised the anxiety level of residents of low-lying areas.
“We are worried about flash flooding later today if we get into more of the ‘training effect' rains,” said Buchanan County Emergency Management Coordinator Rick Wulfekuhle.
Wulfekuhle said he had unofficial reports of as much as 2 inches of rain falling in about an hour. No homes have had to be vacated, he said.
The Wapsipinicon River was at a near-normal level before the rains hit, so it does not present a flooding threat, Wulfekuhle said.
The same system passed over Delaware County, but no flooding had been reported, according to Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ryan.
“We'll be all right unless we get more heavy rains,” he said.
Both Delaware and Buchanan counties are under a flash flood warning until 2:30 p.m.
There are more rain chances today, KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team meteorologist Josh Baynes says. With an unstable and very humid air mass, we'll see a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
An even better chances for showers and storms comes overnight as a cold front approaches. That front sticks around tomorrow with continued rain chances and then, Baynes says, it appears the front will leave the area for the weekend, meaning drier weather.
