An EF-1 tornado was confirmed near Waukon as severe storms swept Monday night across Northeast Iowa, the National Weather Service said.
The tornado touched down at 10:29 p.m. and carved a path of less than 4 miles in about 9 minutes. Its peak wind speeds were estimated at 105 mph.
The twister damaged “mainly trees along its path north of Waukon,” the weather service reported. “One home and several outbuildings/vehicles were damaged as well.” No injuries were reported.
The weather service said a line of thunderstorms moved through parts of Southeast Minnesota, Northeast Iowa and Southwestern Wisconsin, producing pockets of wind damage in their wake — including several reports of trees downed across roads in the Decorah area.
The storms also produced heavy rainfall, including localized flooding, with rainfall reports of 1-2 inches in spots in Northeast Iowa.
