The names of four people killed May 21 in Greenfield when an EF-4 tornado tore through town have been released.
Dean and Pamela Wiggins, 78 and 77, were killed in their home in the 800 block of E. Iowa Street in Greenfield, according to the Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency.
Also killed were Michael Jensen, 73, who died at his home on SE Jackson Street in Greenfield; and William Williamson, 70, who was injured in his home in the 200 block of S. Fifth Street in Greenfield but died later at the Greater Regional Health hospital.
Monica Irma Zamarron, 49, of Shenandoah, whose name was released last week by local authorities, also was killed in the same tornado about 25 miles from Greenfield. Zamarron died in on Highway 148, near Corning in Adams County, after being ejected from her vehicle during the storm.
According to the National Weather Service, eight tornadoes touched down that day in Iowa, the strongest being the tornado packing up to 185 mph wind gusts and carving a 44-mile path from Page to Adair counties and severely damaging Greenfield.
In addition to killing five, the tornado injured at least 35 others.
“Efforts to clean up the affected areas are currently underway. Let us continue to keep all the victims of this tornado in our thoughts and prayers as they work toward rebuilding their communities,” a news release from the emergency management agency states.
