One person suffered a minor injury and several buildings had major damage after a storm moved through the city of Maurice in northwestern Iowa.
The Sioux County sheriff's office said early Thursday that medical crews treated the injured person at the scene and there were no other reported injuries. Authorities say several houses, buildings and trees in Maurice, as well as nearby farms, received major damage in the overnight storm. One home was destroyed in Maurice.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, S.D., says a squall line with winds of between 80 and 100 mph moved through Maurice and Cherokee overnight. The sheriff's office says an emergency shelter has been set up and crews are working to restore power.
Maurice is about 40 miles northeast of Sioux City.
