[Volleyball] League-leading V-Hawks sweep Mustangs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Viterbo (Wis.) volleyball team showed why they're a top-20 program, defeating Mount Mercy in a three-set Midwest Collegiate Conference match on Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
After defeating the Mustangs, 25-14, in the opening set, the V-Hawks came from behind in the second set for a 25-20 victory. They dominated set number three as well, clinching the match by a 25-14 score. The NAIA 19th-ranked V-Hawks improved to 18-2 overall and 3-0 in the MCC. Mount Mercy fell to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Mustangs were led offensively by senior outside hitter Deidre Schaefer and junior outside hitter Brittney Thomas. Schaefer posted 10 kills, Thomas nine. Junior setter Riley Banes had a team-high nine digs and senior setter Janae Rosien finished with 15 assists.
Mount Mercy heads west this weekend for the Grace (Neb.) Tournament in Omaha, Neb. The Mustangs open the tournament against Barclay on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and play continues into Saturday at the two-day event.
