CEDAR RAPIDS — Robin Fonck has been a part of the Kennedy High School volleyball program since 2010.
She'll get an opportunity to return the Cougars to prosperity, starting next fall.
Fonck has been hired to succeed Michelle Goodall as Kennedy's head coach.
'I'm looking forward to it,' Fonck said Monday night. 'We know we have talent coming back. We're ready to dig in with a renewed, motivated staff and help our athletes achieve more success.'
A native of Mount Pleasant, Fonck has served in roles of head freshman coach, head JV coach and assistant varsity coach at Kennedy.
Goodall stepped down in early January after being named an assistant for the U.S. Women's National Sitting Volleyball Team. In 20 seasons at Kennedy, she compiled a 477-273 record and led the Cougars to six state-tournament appearances.
The program slid recently, to 10-23 in 2017 and 15-20 last season.
Kennedy returns key seniors next season in Katie Jensen, Sadie Powell, Abby Feldmann and Claire Fluent.
'We are eager to take this next step with Robin and bring her on board as the new lead of the program,' Kennedy Athletics Director Aaron Stecker said in a release.
'In our conversations over the past several weeks, it is clear that Coach Fonck will provide a strong link between Kennedy volleyball's storied past and a clear vision and mission for a program that strives to bring out the best in our student-athletes, pursuing competitive excellence on the court and in their own personal lives.'
