Visit Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School, for a new exhibit, “Scandinavian American: Photography by National Geographic Explorer Erika Skogg,” opening Saturday. The photos depict the lifestyle, celebrations, and traditions of Scandinavian-American communities throughout the Midwest.

Syttende Mai is the day Norway ratified its constitution in 1814 and Norwegians celebrate the day with excited crowds. Vesterheim's celebration includes family events and an online presentation from Norway, which can be watched from the comfort of home or together with others at the museum.

Artist Carl Homstad continues online virtual tours and live question and answer sessions on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in connection with the exhibition “An Artist’s Journey: Carl Homstad, 50 Years” at Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School. The Decorah-based Foot-Notes band and Vesterheim Museum are hosting a YouTube watch party on Tuesday of their recorded concert of music found in the notebooks of Norwegian immigrant musician Johan Arndt Mostad, who arrived in Iowa as an adult in 1869 and was a popular performer for local dances and house parties.

The lecture series brings together some of the most creative and inspiring Norwegian-American leaders, thinkers and artists working today. The exhibit celebrates the creativity and ingenuity of Norwegian immigrants and their descendants in America.

This free family event will take place outside on Vesterheim’s campus with the opportunity to view the gallery exhibit, “Innovators & Inventors,” inside the Main Building.

After a year of renovations, Vesterheim Heritage Park in Decorah is celebrating its re-opening with a dedication ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mill Street Portal on the Vesterheim National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School campus, at 520 W. Water St. in Decorah.
