Allegiant Air will add nonstop service between Cedar Rapids and Sarasota, Fla., on Nov. 19, the airline announced Tuesday morning.
The flight will operate twice a week, airport Director Marty Lenss said, with “additional frequencies” possible closer to the spring.
“It’s really good news for the region,” Lenss told The Gazette. “Allegiant continues to invest aircraft, crews and time in our market, which speaks to the strength of the market.”
The new route to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, which will include introductory fares of $49, is part of Allegiant’s 22-route expansion that includes more routes to warmer-climate destinations.
“A hallmark of Allegiant’s service is to connect travelers to warmer destinations where they can enjoy a variety of outdoor leisure activities,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue and network planning, in a news release.
The added service will be the airport’s 17th nonstop route and eighth route on Allegiant.
The announcement comes two weeks after Frontier Airlines announced a nonstop route to Orlando International Airport that will begin Nov. 4.
