MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Picking up right where she left off last year, Mount Mercy sophomore Jenna Higgins garnered Midwest Collegiate Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors in Mount Mercy's first outdoor meet of the season.
Higgins, runner-up in the nation last season in the javelin, won the event at last weekend's Washington (Mo.) Invitational with a toss of 145'-11". That performance reached the NAIA's automatic qualifying standard for the national meet and is the second-highest mark in the NAIA this spring.
As a freshman, Higgins medaled with a fifth-place finish in the javelin at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships and was the NAIA national runner-up and an NAIA all-American. She was also a three-time MCC women's track & field athlete of the week.
