[Track & Field] Five athletes, seven events for Mustangs at indoor national meet

GENEVA, Ohio -- Five members of the Mount Mercy men's and women's track & field teams will compete in seven events at the 32nd Annual NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship this week at the SPIRE Institute Track & Field Sports Complex.
Juniors Jenna Higgins and Larissa Wilden each qualified in two events. Higgins will race in the 60 meter dash for the second year in a row and also qualified in the 200 meter dash. The preliminaries of the 60 meters are at 12:35 p.m. Central Time on Friday with the semifinals later on at 2:55 p.m. Higgins will run the 200 meters at 6:05 p.m. on Friday.
Wilden will compete in the high jump for the second time in three years and a will make her debut in the 60 meter hurdles. The prelims of the 60 meter hurdles take place at noon on Friday, with the semifinals at 1:35 p.m. Wilden competes in the high jump on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Senior Jacqueline Kane and junior Mwale Kapande are competing for the Mustangs as well. Kane is no stranger to the national stage. She will race in the 600 meter run for the second straight year and was an NAIA all-American in the event at last spring's outdoor national meet. Kane's event is on Friday at 2:25 p.m. Kapande will make her first appearance at nationals in the long jump on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
Junior
Nathan Stern competes for the Mount Mercy men in the shot put. It's his first time at the NAIA national meet and his top throw of the indoor season, 51'-1", set a school record and came at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 11 in Sterling, Ill.
