CLARENCE - Track season is upon us all.
The last-minute runs, lifting weights and strengthening the core are what most do right before track starts.
But Seamus Raney is one of the few who run, lift and do core year-round.
This will be Raney's senior year, the final go around.
Raney has been working very hard. He has winning edge Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but when he gets home from school he goes on the treadmill or goes on a run outside if the weather is good. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he gets up early and goes to the school to get in a run before most arrive.
Raney runs any time he has the opportunity. There is no doubt he is very dedicated to the sport of track. Last year, he ran very well and won or placed second at most meets, qualifying for state in the open 800 and sprint medley his junior year.
'This year I want to set the school record in the 800 and 400,” Raney said.
The last first meet for Raney will be on March 6 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
Raney is hoping for a long season of success. After high school, he will run track at University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, S.D.
