CEDAR RAPIDS — The city’s core streets are about to turn into pedestrian shoppers’ paradise.

The 19th annual Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market gets underway May 25, with seven more dates through Sept. 21.

The even features entertainment, food and 200 market vendors, selling everything from garden-fresh produce to artisan wares, wine and cheese.

Markets run from 7:30 a.m. to noon on May 25, June 1, June 15, July 6, July 20, Aug. 3, Aug. 17 and Sept. 21. Footprint is Second to Fourth avenues between Second and Fifth streets SE.

Average attendance is 12,000 per week.

The ever-popular Market After Dark will be held from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 24, featuring 100 varied vendors mixed with lively entertainment. This event brings a festive atmosphere to downtown Cedar Rapids with food, beer, wine, art, entertainment and creative place-making displays. Average attendance is 30,000 to 50,000.
