Nelson Brands is an accomplished wrestler, winning three state titles and All-American honors in high school and college. He also trained under Hall of Fame coaches. Brands will bring those experiences to his new role as Iowa City Regina boys’ head wrestling coach.
University of Iowa has always been a source for college wrestling coaches, going back to those under legendary coach Dan Gable. Now, former wrestlers under Tom Brands are influencing wrestlers across the country.
The Cy-Hawk Series will become the first regular-season college wrestling dual televised live on ESPN. Fourth-ranked Iowa will look to win a 19th straight dual against No. 8 Iowa State, which has one of its best shots at a victory in recent years.
