Iowa high school volleyball regional finals: Monday's 3A, 4A, 5A scores and coverage

Monday night, 24 Iowa high school volleyball teams punched their tickets to next week's state tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Regional finals took place in Classes 3A, 4A and 5A. Read on for the final scores and area coverage. Click here for the state touranment pairings and schedule.

Class 5A

Region 1: No. 2 Ankeny Centennial 3, Sioux City East 0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-14)

Region 2: No. 7 West Des Moines Dowling 3, No. 11 Council Bluffs Lincoln 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17)

Region 3: No. 10 Waukee 3, No. 9 Urbandale 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-16)

Region 4: No. 6 Ankeny 3, Ames 0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-11)

Region 5: No. 3 West Des Moines Valley 3, No. 15 Johnston 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-12)

Region 6: No. 1 Cedar Falls 3, Waterloo West 0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-10)

Region 7: No. 5 Linn-Mar 3, No. 8 Pleasant Valley 1 (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23)

Anything but Game 5. Anything.

'Of course, yes,' said Linn-Mar's Tori Niemeyer. 'We wanted to get it done there.'

Which the fifth-ranked Lions were finally able to do Monday night in Game 4 of their Class 5A regional volleyball final against No. 8 Pleasant Valley. Niemeyer's well-placed return appeared to hit right on the sideline to give her team a 25-23 victory and 3-1 overall win.

Region 8: No. 4 Cedar Rapids Jefferson 3, No. 13 Iowa City High 0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-21)

A state-tournament return. And a first-round rematch.

Sydney Kloubec can't wait.

'I'm ready,' she said. 'We want them. Bring them on.'

Kloubec smashed 16 kills in fourth-ranked Cedar Rapids Jefferson's regional final sweep of No. 13 Iowa City High.

Class 4A

Region 1: No. 1 Sergeant Bluff-Luton 3, No. 11 Sioux City Heelan 0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-20)

Region 2: No. 6 Bondurant-Farrar 3, No. 15 Lewis Central 0 (25-17, 25-20, 34-32)

Region 3: No. 3 Dallas Center-Grimes 3, Norwalk 0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-15)

Region 4: No. 8 West Delaware 3, No. 9 Waverly-Shell Rock 1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21)

Region 5: No. 5 Independence 3, Marion 0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-18)

Independence has its opportunity to take another step.

One year after being swept out of the first round at the volleyball state tournament, the fifth-ranked Mustangs earned a state bid for the second year in a row.

'I'm so excited to go back,' said senior Madison Larson, who posted a game-high 18 kills. 'Ever since that season ended last year, I've been ready.'

Region 6: No. 4 Dubuque Wahlert 3, No. 10 Clinton 1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20)

Region 7: No. 7 Pella 3, Clear Creek Amana 2 (18-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-9)

Region 8: No. 2 Cedar Rapids Xavier 3, No. 14 Fairfield 0 (25-7, 25-17, 25-14)

Cedar Rapids Xavier started fast and didn't let up on the throttle much at all.

The Saints are now revved up and ready to return to the state volleyball tournament for the third straight year.

'I like the way we started,' Xavier Coach Austin Filer said. 'We've been here before, so I think that's always in your favor when you have that type of experience. We have a lot of kids that have been at the state level the last couple years and this is kind of an expectation for us at this point."
