CEDAR RAPIDS — Class 3A has been the most topsy turvy in boys’ basketball this season, but it was 1A that captured that title last week.

Six of last week’s top 10 in the class lost, which means there is a shakeup in this week’s Gazette rankings.

The top two are still very solid, with Grand View Christian (19-1) at No. 1 and Ankeny Christian (20-0) second. The rest of the top five is Sioux Central, George-Little Rock and Montezuma.

Three new teams joined the rankings in South O’Brien (sixth), Mason City Newman (eighth) and Martensdale-St. Mary’s (ninth).

The other No. 1s remained the same until early Monday evening, when Bettendorf handed North Scott its first loss of the season, 43-41. The Bulldogs take over the top spot in Class 4A, simply flipping spots with the Lancers.

North Scott (18-1) had to go to double overtime to beat Davenport Central last week.

The top five in Class 3A changed a bit, as fourth-ranked Norwalk lost to Osklaloosa and fell to seventh this week. Sergeant Bluff-Luton (16-3) is No. 1, followed by Clear Lake, Maquoketa, Pella and Carroll.

In 2A, North Linn (20-0) completed its impressive regular season by blowing out Montezuma, 87-40. It is South Hamilton, West Sioux, Dike-New Hartford and South Central Calhoun behind the Lynx, in that order.
