Media comments show Hinson’s untrustworthy

Ashley Hinson, a Republican candidate for the 1st District congressional seat, announced fundraising totals in July. In the release, she describes herself as 'an award-winning reporter for KCRG-TV9 in Cedar Rapids.” However, do not forget, Hinson publicly said she was a 'recovering journalist” at the Trump rally in June 2017.
It was a crowd-pleasing line, but it deeply offends this former journalist. At a time when some mock journalists and denigrate the news, Americans should celebrate good journalists and their work.
I worked at The Gazette for a decade and my time overlapped Hinson's. I was proud to work at an independently owned newspaper and be part of a team that produced a daily newspaper for Cedar Rapids. In her campaign announcement ad, Hinson tells viewers she enjoyed covering Eastern Iowa communities. Then, however, she bashes the media.
These hypocritical, about-face statements by Hinson show her to be an untrustworthy candidate. I want a candidate to mean what she says no matter where she's speaking or what her circumstances are at the time. That's why I'm supporting Rep. Abby Finkenauer for reelection in 2020. She has consistently supported Iowa workers and communities in Congress and the Iowa House.
