Editorial cartoon was 'near perfect'

I thought a recent editorial cartoon (Lisa Benson, Feb. 22) showing Bernie Sanders releasing balloons of free stuff like an out of control Oprah show was near perfect. “You get a car, and you get a car.”

The only thing that would make it better would have been the Twitter troll-in-chief standing next to Bernie releasing his own balloons of our money to his cronies and big corporations with his so-called tax cuts. Next in line would be the farmers he bought off with free money after his tariff war backfired. First in that particular line, of course, is our own Chuck Grassley. Next would be the Russians and Saudis, expecting their payback for getting Trump elected.

All of those groups have much in common with the welfare queens that Republicans love to vilify — they can’t wait to go to the mailbox to see if their “gummint” check is there. Bernie’s view on government is no more sustainable than the current path our country is on but, if I have to choose one, I’ll vote for the one that isn’t selling our country right out from under us.
