Two people were injured Friday evening when their van was struck by an oncoming car as they attempted to cross Highway 151.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, at 6:53 p.m. deputies and emergency responders were called to the intersection of Highway 151 and Springville Road for the report of a vehicle collision.
Responders arrived to find that a Toyota van had been crossing the intersection, going north on Springville Road, when it was struck by a car on Highway 151, according to the release.
The driver of the van was Donald Gaddis, 82, of Solon and his passenger was Karen Gaddis, 79, also of Solon. They were both taken to Mercy Hospital by Anamosa Ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
The driver of the oncoming car was Chad Kittrell, 48, of Cedar Rapids, according to the release. He and a juvenile passenger in his vehicle were uninjured.
All of the passengers involved were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Springville Road going into Springville north of Highway 151 was closed for a short time, according to the release.
Donald Gladdis is charged with failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
Also assisting on the scene were Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue and the Springville Fire Department.
