CEDAR RAPIDS - A 27-year-old man seriously injured in a December shooting at The Pointe apartment complex died last week, according to Cedar Rapids police.
Tyrice Douglas died at 4 a.m. May 6, police said.
Ezekiel C. Phillips Jr., 30, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested in connection with the shooting and faces two counts each of attempted murder and willful injury and one count of going armed with intent.
Cedar Rapids police and the Linn County Attorney's office are awaiting autopsy results to determine whether those charges should be updated, public safety spokesperson Greg Buelow said.
Police said Douglas and a woman identified at Mone Dotson, 19, were injured in a shooting at an apartment at 1623 Parke Towne Ct. NE at complex at 3 a.m. Dec. 19.
Police were called after the injured Dotson fled to the apartment at 1643 Parke Towne Ct. NE seeking help.
Douglas was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses identified Phillips as the person entering the apartment and firing multiple shots at Dotson and Douglas, according to the criminal complaint.
Phillips was arrested the next evening at Ninth Street and Eighth Avenue SW during a traffic stop.
Phillips remains in custody at Linn County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
