A Cedar Rapids man was arrested on multiple charges over the weekend after police said he tried to set a vehicle on fire at the Five Seasons Parkade.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched on Saturday to the Parkade on First Avenue Northeast near the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown.
When they arrived, police said they found Grant M. Ajango, 22, attempted to set a truck ablaze by 'stuffing paper into the vehicle and lighting the paper on fire,' the complaint states.
The garage's video footage also showed Ajango tampering with the pay station near the Parkade entrance, according to the complaint.
When officers attempted to take Ajango into custody, he allegedly ran. Once caught, the complaint states police searched him, allegedly finding methamphetamine and burglar tools, including a broken pocketknife and screw driver. Police said pieces of the broken tools were found near the pay station.
Ajango faces charges of second-degree arson, possession of a controlled substance, third-degree burglary. Possession of burglary tools, third-degree criminal mischief and interference with official acts.
