3 children die in crash near I-80's Oxford interchange

OXFORD — Three children were killed Sunday when the car they were traveling in was hit by a semi trailer near Oxford on Interstate 80.
The Iowa State Patrol confirmed the victim's ages were 11, 12 and 13 years old. According to state patrol crash reports, the children were in a westbound Kia Rondo and the driver was attempting to make a U-turn around 1:07 p.m. Sunday. The Kia was hit broadside by a semi.
Two additional people were injured in the crash and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The names of the deceased and injured have not yet been released.
Authorities said the driver of the semi was able to drive away from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
