The report rates hospitals nationwide and within each state, and ranks the facilities by specialties, procedures and conditions, and patient experience.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics was named as the top hospital in Iowa in the 2018-19 rankings.

The Iowa City-based health care system also was nationally ranked in seven of its adult specialties. These are:

l Ear, nose and throat — No. 3

l Ophthalmology — No. 7

l Orthopedics — No. 14

l Cancer — No. 18

l Urology — No. 34

l Pulmonology — No. 39

l Gynecology — No. 50.

The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital also was ranked in the report.

It was named among the top hospitals in the United States for four children’s specialties:

l Pediatric nephrology — No. 28

l Pediatric cancer — No. 36

l Pediatric orthopedics — No. 48

l Neonatology — No. 49.
