An Urbana company that has made its business selling stuff online, has acquired a business brand based around brick-and-mortar locations.

Clickstop announced Tuesday it has purchased Clean Laundry Licensing Co., the name behind three self-service laundry facilities in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo.

Clickstop purchased Clean Laundry from Akins Enterprises in Waterloo, run by Phil Akin and his son, Ethan. Under the deal, the Akins are now Clickstop employees, but will continue to run the Waterloo Clean Laundry locations through Akins Enterprises as licensees.

The Clean Laundry in Cedar Rapids, 6600 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, opened Aug. 17 and is owned and operated by Marc Starks of Waterloo.

In a news release, Clickstop founder Tim Guenther said the acquisition “is a great fit for both companies because Clickstop can now help support the rapid expansion of” Clean Laundry. Licensing deals are being pursued in Minnesota and Florida.

Future stores will have individual owners who pay Clickstop a licensing fee to use the Clean Laundry name, Ethan Akin said in an email.

The acquisition is the second announced by Clickstop this month. The company said last week it had purchased Pepper Joe’s, a distributor of pepper and chili seeds.
