In Bill Stamats latest collection, you won’t find the same dull textures, faded colors and framing that has become a stereotype for places often called “flyover country.”

Titled “Back Roads and Blue Skies / Paintings and Assemblages,” the Stamats exhibition opens with an artist reception that night at 6:30 p.m. in the uptown Mount Vernon gallery. His 16-piece exhibit runs through Aug. 23.

The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art will offer free admission this summer for the 16th year of their Free Summer Admission Program. Admission to CRMA will be free for all visitors July 1 through Aug. 31, 2025.

Award-winning independent filmmaker S. Torriano Berry will host a retrospective exhibit featuring his work as an independent filmmaker and a silent auction of art by his mother, Jean Berry, at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, at CSPS Hall.

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of KCCK-FM, Iowa’s only jazz radio station, the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art brings together photographs of jazz musicians taken by Cedar Rapids natives for an exhibition titled “All that Jazz: Photographs by Carl Van Vechten and George T. Henry.”

The mural, painted by Grant Wood student William E. Henning, will hang in the district’s Educational Leadership and Support Center while Harrison Elementary School is being renovated, which should take about two years.

The walls of the Iowa City Parks Department lobby and offices are lined with intricate quilts that use colorful fabrics to depict the city’s parks and environments. The artist behind the quilts is the department’s director, Juli Seydell Johnson.

Prestige is a biannual special section dedicated to Iowans 55+. Each section includes stories, resources and real perspectives about life in Iowa for older adults that cover a range of issues.
