Plumbing contractor takes over closed Mickey Chrysler Dodge; called 'nice, adaptive reuse'
Sep. 15, 2009 3:09 pm
Life can go on when a car dealership closes.
Plumbing contractor Modern Piping plans to move its operation from 250 33
rd
St. SE to the now-closed Mickey Chrysler Dodge dealership, 1919 Dodge Rd. NE, near Center Point Road NE and Collins Road NE.
Ken Brown from Modern Piping told the City Planning Commission on Tuesday that the company had outgrown its current site. He said the company has about 18 to 20 office employees and 160 out in the field.
The commission approved the company's request for a conditional use permit so it can set up a contractor's shop at a site zoned for commercial development.
Commission member Scott Overland called the move by Modern Piping into the former car dealership “a nice, adaptive reuse of a building that could have sat for some time.”
