IOWA GETS LOW RATING IN ONLINE STATE TAX RANKINGS

WalletHub, which bills itself as the leading personal finance social network, issued a report Tuesday ranking Iowa as the ninth worst state to be as a taxpayer. WalletHub, which has 123 followers on Twitter, issued a press release announcing its 2014 report on the Best & Worst States to be a Taxpayer . The report analyzed how the 50 states as well as the District of Columbia compare to the national median in terms of 10 different categories of taxation, ranging from state and local income taxes to alcohol and telecom taxes. The report ranked Iowa as having the seventh highest state income tax (7.29 percent); the seventh highest auto sales tax ($222.15); the 11th highest local income tax (0.004 percent); and the 14th highest real estate tax (1.4 percent).
