Fire Chief Havlik works on compromise so new panhandling ordinanced won't hurt firefighters' Fill-the-Boot fund-raising effort for MDA
Sep. 9, 2009 4:42 pm
Fire Chief Steve Havlik said Wednesday that he is working on a compromise that will let the Police Department have a tough, new anti-panhandling statute and allow firefighters to keep their “Fill the Boot” campaign that puts firefighters at intersections to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
As initially designed, the city's new anti-panhandling statute would have prevented the firefighters from conducting their annual fundraising drive.
Havlik's effort to find a compromise convinced City Hall to pull a vote on the measure from the City Council's Wednesday agenda.
