Council poised to name a stretch of pavement next to Kingston Stadium for Kurt Warner

You better step up if you have an idea for a street to name after Cedar Rapids-native and NFL-phenomenon Kurt Warner.
The City Council on Wednesday evening is poised to name what it calls a “driveway” alongside Kingston Stadium between the stadium and the Veterans Memorial Stadium minor-league ballpark for Warner.
The driveway, about 850 feet in length, connects Eighth Avenue SW and Veterans Memorial Drive SW, and council member Chuck Swore wants to name the stretch of pavement Kurt Warner Way.
Two radio stations in Cedar Rapids have suggested naming a street near Regis Middle School, which was Regis High School when Warner played there, for the quarterback.
Swore has said that naming the unnamed driveway alongside Kingston Stadium makes sense because Warner played football in the stadium and because no one's existing address would need to be changed.
Three years ago, Swore was the driving force behind naming a short piece of street that leads to Elmcrest County Club after Cedar Rapids-native and 2007 Masters Golf Tournament champion Zach Johnson.
The city code allows the council to name a street after someone still living if the council determines that the person has achieved national or international stature.
