Cost increases to repair and protect flood-damaged Grant Wood window at the Veterans Memorial Building
Jan. 15, 2010 2:41 pm
The cost to repair the Veterans Memorial Building's Grant Wood stained-glass window has gone from $147,000 to $289,000, a change in the city's contract with Glass Heritage LLC that was approved by the City Council this week.
The addition of $142,000 to the contract will cover additional repairs to the window, damaged in the June 2008 flood, as well as the cost to install a new protective glazing frame and new protective glass once the window is put back in place.
The repair work is taking place in Glass Heritage's Davenport studio.
The Veterans Memorial Commission's hope is to have the window back in place by Memorial Day.
