Cedar Valley Humane Society names Cathy Boyes interim executive director to fill gap left by departing co-directors
Sep. 16, 2009 10:34 am
Cathy Boyes has been named interim executive director of the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
Boyes fills a gap left two weeks ago when the Humane Society's two co-directors departed along with four other employees at the non-profit organization's animal shelter at 7411 Mount Vernon Rd. east of Highway 13.
The Humane Society's board president, Bernie Lettington, has not commented on the departures, calling them personnel matters.
In naming Boyes as interim executive director, the Humane Society's board of directors says Boyes has been dedicated volunteer at the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter who stepped up to the help the Humane Society's shelter when the former leadership left.
“We are happy to have a point person on staff to help steer the CVHS in the right direction as we continue the hiring process for the permanent executive director,” Lettington said Wednesday.
He said he wanted the public to know that the shelter is open, is accepting unwanted animals and continues to look for new homes for them.
In its news release, the Humane Society states that Boyes has been a foster coordinator with the Animal Welfare Foundation of Jones County, has helped with the K-9 Kindness Rescue and has planned events and serves on the breed rescue team for the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter.
