Cedar Rapids Library Board names Doug Elliott its new president
Jun. 29, 2010 9:30 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Doug Elliott is the new president of the city's library board.
The board voted unanimously to name Elliott president at its late afternoon meeting on Tuesday.
Elliott takes over for Susan Corrigan, who remains on the board and has agreed to be reappointed for another three-year board term.
Elliott, who is executive director of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments, said Corrigan displayed “tenacity, leadership and clarity of vision” in her two years as board president.
Elliott presented three books in Corrigan's name to the library collection. He noted that her son will be entering high school once the city's new library is open in late 2012, and so the board picked three “classics” that Elliott said those headed on their way to high school should read: "To Kill a Mockingbird;" "Lord of the Flies;" and a one-book collection of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
The library's staff also gave Corrigan a gift.
Corrigan, a senior manager at AEGON USA, said she was glad to remain a board member so she could continue to be part of the planning and construction of the city's new library.
