Iowa City baristas joined a growing national “No Contract, No Coffee” strike, urging customers to boycott Starbucks until the coffee chain negotiates a first union contract — more than two and a half years after Iowa City workers voted unanimously to unionize.
Still no Iowa locations are listed as participating in open-ended strike to protest stalled labor negotiations with the company.
The strike was intended to disrupt Starbucks' Red Cup Day, which is typically one of the company's busiest days of the year.
The company wouldn't give a number of stores that are closing, but the bulk of the closures appear to be in the U.S. and Canada
