COLLABORATION: IowaCare patients and non-ambulatory veterans in the Corridor area without rides to University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics and VA Hospital since the UI discontinued its transportation service at the end of 2012 have another option starting this week. Funding from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation and the Iowa Department of Transportation will help two local agencies, Neighborhood Transportation Service, and Linn County LIFTS, offer a twice-weekly shuttle service to those patients. Veterans ride free and patients of IowaCare, which covers medical care for people not eligible for Medicaid and not able to afford their own coverage, pay $1 each way.

A DROUGHT POSITIVE: Our ongoing drought isn't all bad. For example, local city snow removal budgets are barely tapped. In Cedar Rapids, only 20 percent spent so far.
