GIFT FOR VETERANS: Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere (GIVE) recently got a financial boost from Lonnie and Mary Jo Nielsen, Belle Plaine natives. Lonnie competes on the PGA Champions Tour and the couple is donating money for every birdie and eagle he cards this year. Thanks to the Nielsens and GIVE, no injured veteran pays for the golf training by PGA professionals and course time at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside.

LEGENDARY EVENT: The thousands who turned out for the inaugural FRY Fest honoring Hawkeye football coaching legend Hayden Fry was a testimony to the coach's impact on this state as well as the savvy of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau that organized the event.

WHERE IT BELONGS: We're glad to see that the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library will rebuild in the Czech Village historical area. Its governing board decided to build a new exhibition center and library just across the street from its flood-damaged museum. It will be built above a parking garage for added flood protection and its presence should draw more tourists, which should be a boost to the recovering Czech Village business district.
