Homers: What's going right

MORE PLAY: Staff and about 25 volunteers, on the weekend before Thanksgiving, began assembling a new playground area of 1,200 square feet at Willis Dady Emergency Shelter in Cedar Rapids. The playground, expected to open in the spring, is designed to help kids without permanent homes relieve their stress. Grants helped pay the cost.

RIGHT MOVE: Gov. Culver did the right thing in lifting the suspension on tax credits for previously approved and registered movie projects, with tighter rules. Not only does this help the state meet its legal obligations while alleged abuses and mismanagement in the program are fixed, it should help the film industry maintain at least some of its interest in Iowa and bring economic development benefits to our state.

THANKFUL FOR CONNECTIONS: Cell phones and the Internet often make our lives more hectic and can be annoying. However, they are also a blessing for staying in touch with family and friends who live far away. That's especially true for our soldiers stationed overseas or in other places where they can't get home for the holidays to be with loved ones.
