The plan OK'd last week by the library board calls for 105 free spaces on the lot and streets, and 125 more in the Fourth Avenue Parkade, which will be connected by skywalk to the library's second floor.

WORKING TOGETHER: Cedar Rapids city officials, and representatives of union and non-union contractors jointly drafted new standards required to bid on large public building projects. All parties agreed that, overall, the new rules should level the playing field and ensure better safety and quality of construction. The City Council gave unanimous approval.

PUBLIC SERVICE: A tip of the hat and thanks to Michael Stevenson, who served Linn County for 39 years, including the last 24 as county treasurer, before resigning on May 28. Stevenson, 66, began working for the county in 1971 as a deputy in the motor vehicle department. As treasurer, he ran unopposed in elections throughout his tenure.
