ESPY'S HONOR IOWANS: The Ed Thomas family accepted the ESPY'S Arthur Ashe Courage Award Wednesday in Los Angeles. The family was recognized for its courage to forgive Mark Becker, a former player who shot and killed the beloved Aplington-Parkersburg football coach and community leader in June 2009. Also showing courage were Becker's parents, who were in the audience.

ZACH GIVES BACK: Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson continues using his success on the PGA Tour to help his hometown. Earlier this month, the pro golfer announced formation of the Zach Johnson Foundation, a non-profit organization that will benefit children in need in our area. A pro-am tournament with several PGA players is set for Aug. 1 at Elmcrest Country Club. AEGON/Transamerica is the title sponsor, allowing all money raised to help the kids served by the foundation.
