COALITION'S IMPACT: After organizing 665,000 hours of volunteer labor on 640 work sites helping people who were flooded out of their homes in 2008, the Linn Area Long Term Recovery Coalition is shutting down. In its place is the new Linn Area Community Organizations Active in Disaster, with 35 groups joining to plan disaster response and train members for future disasters. Most of the same groups involved with the coalition have joined the new organization to be an ongoing resource base for the community.

UI SUPPORT: The University of Iowa Foundation had a record 73,332 donors in fiscal 2010, which ended June 30. That's nearly 10,000 more than the previous year. Those donors' average amount given was down a bit but still totaled $169.6 million - the third-best amount ever despite the deep economic recession.

FILLING A NEED: Linn Community Care, a federally funded community health center in Cedar Rapids, has seen its patient visits double to 2,200 per month since opening its larger new site a year ago. It helps patients with or without insurance, on a sliding fee scale, and coordinates care for those with chronic or multiple illnesses.
