LUCKY BUCK:
Three Iowans rescued a 10-point buck from a sinkhole near Decorah. After freeing a tractor from the sinkhole, a local farmer and his neighbor looked down to see the deer below. The animal 'appeared to be OK” and ran away once hoisted to steady ground.

BOASTING RIGHTS:
The American Institute for Economic Research has listed Ames and Iowa City as two of the top five small college towns in the country. The recognition is based on quality of life in the communities as well as other socio-economic factors. Ames was ranked second and Iowa City earned fourth place.

MILITARY ART:
Cedar Rapids' Veterans Memorial Building is hosting the first (of what it hopes will be many) exhibition of art created by a military veteran. The current works by Julius Cavira will remain on display through the end of November. The Chicago native now makes his home in Cedar Rapids and completed two tours of duty in Iraq.
