A Waterloo teacher arrested for lascivious acts with a child. An Iowa City coach draws a drunk-driving charge. All within two months. Disturbing.

BUSINESSES AT RISK: Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce officials say about 1,000 small businesses trying to recover from the flood amid a national recession may need help to survive long term. A survey found about 150 businesses are within six months or less of running out of operating cash.

FOOD OR BOOZE?: If you mix vodka with orange juice, it's an alcoholic beverage, right? But mix vodka with Jell-O, that's different because Jell-O is a food, Iowa City bar owners recently argued. The Union Bar also claimed the Jell-O shots didn't contain enough alcohol to qualify as an alcoholic drink. The judge rejected the arguments and upheld the civil penalty assessed because a bar employee allegedly sold a Jell-O shot without verifying the customer's age. Is someone missing the law's intent?
