BAD BUGS ON THE MOVE: The feared emerald ash borer has been found in a second spot in Iowa. The insect, first spotted in Northeast Iowa in 2010, has been discovered in Burlington - 28 miles from an infestation in Galesburg, Ill. Iowa has about 52 million ash trees in rural areas and about 3.1 million more in urban settings. The borer has devastated ash tree populations in parts of 19 states since first being detected near Detroit in 2002. There is no effective treatment to stop them, so communities are trying to remove declining ash trees and replace them with other species.

PROBLEM RELOCATES: The University of Iowa's smoking ban has inadvertently created a problem for the Iowa City Downtown District. The ban on campus has led some smokers to move downtown, where they've been dropping butts. District members are working on fixing a problem they wouldn't have to address if most smokers were more responsible.

SPREADING: Cyclospora parasite cases continued to increase in Linn County and other parts of Iowa. Wash your hands and your produce thoroughly to avoid this nasty illness.
