DELAYED AGAIN: Iowa City school board members have had many challenging issues on their plates the past couple of years - among them, redistricting and facilities plans for one of the state's fastest-growing districts. Still, it's disappointing to see that for the second year in a row, contract negotiations with Superintendent Stephen Murley will be delayed several months beyond the usual deadline. This year, his evaluation was to be done by May 1 with salary set by June 1. And recently, at least one board member raised the issue of some email exchanges regarding the negotiations not being shared with the full board. The delays may well not signal anything amiss but they don't do much to build public trust.

OL' MAN WINTER BLUES: Bitter cold came early to Eastern Iowa over the weekend, as temperature lows dipped into the single digits and highs struggled to reach the 20s. And all of this coming before Thanksgiving. Just ask the Hawkeyes and Wolverines, who played football game Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, where the coldest temperature on record for an Iowa game at kickoff time was expected. As was the case in Ames where Iowa State and Kansas played.
