YET A THIRD VOTE? It appears likely a successful petition drive will lead to yet another vote on Iowa City's 21-only bar law in November. It would be the third time since 2007 that the issue has gone before Iowa City voters, with the ordinance being rejected the first time and then winning in fall 2010. Clearly it's residents' right to petition for a change but we're disappointed that some can't leave alone a law that's demonstrated positive effects in a university community that has long had a national reputation for problem drinking among young people.

BLUEPRINT THIEF: Someone apparently broke in and stole facilities plans at the site of the new Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison last week. Laptops and other equipment also were swiped. Union officials for prison workers complained of potential security breaches and claimed a link to understaffing.

STILL TOO WET: More torrential rains, more flooding threats and communities scrambling to protect themselves. And even some sinkholes. Such was Eastern Iowa weather last week, as our record wet spring continued into summer.
