INTERNAL STRIFE: The Iowa Association of School Boards' board of directors are crying foul and stepping up action on IASB's managers, who are the subject of audits and a legislative investigation for alleged financial abuses. Board members say their trust was violated and they've been denied access to data. Among the actions being probed are exceptionally large raises approved by the executive director, Maxine Kilcrease, for herself and several on her staff. The board fired Kilcrease on Thursday. Another question is whether the board itself exercised appropriate oversight after new management was hired. About one-third of IASB's budget comes from fees paid by school districts, area education agencies and community colleges.

OVERLOOKED: A vision-impaired passenger was left alone on a LIFTS bus for two hours March 20 in Cedar Rapids. The bus driver who overlooked the passenger after parking the vehicle resigned after the incident, according to Linn County transportation service officials. The passenger was returning from dialysis treatment and headed for a local care center. When he didn't show up, staff called LIFTS. Thankfully, this didn't happen on a frigid winter day.
