WEATHER'S DOWNSIDE: This unusual stretch of almost summerlike weather we have been enjoying also creates some potential negative repercussions. For one, fruit trees that are budding several weeks earlier than normal are at a higher risk of losing apple or other crops if a hard freeze arrives in late April or early May.

GOBBLER IN YOUR FACE: Are the wild turkeys turning on us? Experts and other area residents are reporting an unusual number of recent close encounters involving people and the big birds, who grow up to 30 pounds in size. Maybe it's because more wild turkeys have been moving into urban areas lately because they can't be hunted there or homeowners' bird feeders may be attracting them. Or, maybe we can blame the weather.

NO DAM DOLLARS?: Delaware County officials and the Lake Delhi taxing district appear to be doing what state legislators have asked to earn the state's financial contribution to restore the lake's severely flood-damaged dam. Yet last week, the Iowa House stripped funding. What gives?
