Gomers -- What's Going Wrong

IMPEACHMENT ABUSE: Several freshman Republican legislators have made partial good on their campaign promise: Impeach the remaining Iowa Supreme Court justices who weren't up for retention and among the three tossed out by voters in November in the wake of the Court's 2009 ruling that paved the way for civil same-sex marriage. Last week, the lawmakers drafted articles of impeachment, but didn't declare when they'll file them. The majority of the GOP caucus does not appear to support this misuse of impeachment. At least, we hope so.

NOT AGAIN: Yes, the perennial issue of approving a dove-hunting season in Iowa is before the Legislature again. It also survived last week's first funnel deadline for bills. Come on, legislators, this can't be a high priority compared to so many other compelling issues to settle - such as education, Medicaid and public employee contracts and collective bargaining.

FLOOD WORRY: Iowa cities along the Upper Mississippi River are facing likely record or near-record spring flooding. The biggest factor: deep snowpack still melting upstream in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
