UNCERTAINTY
PERSISTS: Lack of a base level of permanent funding since 2007 for the Federal Aviation Administration has made planning and completing important projects more difficult for airports, including The Eastern Iowa Airport. Airport officials must wait out Congress until short-term resolutions are approved, a situation that can increase costs for projects, which are largely funded by federal money. The Eastern Iowa Airport is planning three major improvement projects, tied in part to federal expectations, costing more than $21 million during the next three years.

SPRING ENDS: Well, we came close but didn't quite break the record for the latest date of the season to record a snowfall of 1 inch or more in our area. The run of 50-degree days in early January also came to sudden halt. In other words, real Iowa winter weather arrived last week. At least we can be grateful for the unusual run of mild weather and virtually no ice and snow until now. And, hey, kids deserve some sledding time, right? And snowmobilers and cross country skiers won't complain if we keep some white stuff around for a while.
